How one-way (reflective) window film works
One-way film uses a reflective outer surface so that the brighter side acts like a mirror to the darker side. During the day, sunlight outside is brighter than the interior, so people outside see a reflection while you see out clearly. It's the same physics as a car's tinted rear window. The night-time trap most people miss
Once the sun goes down and you turn interior lights on, the lighting flips. Now the inside is brighter than outside, so the mirror effect reverses — passers-by can see in, and you see your own reflection. If night-time privacy matters (bedrooms, bathrooms, street-facing living rooms), one-way film alone is not enough. You'll need blinds, curtains or a switch to frosted film in those specific rooms.
How frosted (decorative) window film works
Frosted film — most commonly 3M™ Fasara — is a translucent film that scatters light.
