    Window tinting projects across Melbourne

A selection of the work we have completed since 1997, with notes on the problem each job solved and the film used to solve it.

This gallery covers the four kinds of work we are asked for most across Melbourne: heat and glare control in homes, solar film for offices and shopfronts, frosting and decorative film for privacy and branding, and safety and security film for glass that needs to hold together. Every photo below is a real install by our own team, and each one carries a short note explaining what the client was dealing with before the film went on.

Film is a retrofit: it is applied to the glass you already have, usually in a day or less for a typical home, so there is no glazing replacement and no building work. What varies between jobs is the film specification, which we match to the glass type, the orientation of the windows and what the room is used for. That is why two houses on the same street can end up with different products.

If you are trying to work out which of these applies to you, start with residential window tinting for homes and apartments, or commercial window tinting for offices, retail and body-corporate work. Indicative pricing for each is on our pricing page.

    Residential window tinting projects

Most homes we work on have the same two complaints: rooms that overheat from late morning through the afternoon, and windows that put living areas on display to the street or the neighbours. These installs use solar control and privacy films fitted to the existing glass, so there is no need to replace windows. Heat and glare drop straight away, furnishings and flooring are shielded from UV fading, and the view out is kept as clear as the film choice allows.

Brighton home — 3M Prestige 70 to west-facing living room glass

Brighton home — 3M Prestige 70 to west-facing living room glass

Large west-facing windows made the lounge unusable on summer afternoons. Prestige 70 is a clear, non-metallic film, so the room kept its natural light and the family kept their bay view while the worst of the afternoon heat and UV was cut out.

Camberwell period home — All-Season film for winter heat loss

Camberwell period home — All-Season film for winter heat loss

A double-storey period home losing warmth through single-glazed windows every winter. All-Season Low-E retrofit film reflects interior heat back into the room in cold months and rejects solar heat in summer, evening out the temperature swing across the year.

Inner-Melbourne apartment — privacy film to overlooked bedrooms

Inner-Melbourne apartment — privacy film to overlooked bedrooms

Bedroom windows sat metres from the neighbouring building. A daytime privacy film gave the owners their rooms back without blocking light or requiring blinds to stay shut.

Commercial and office window film projects

Commercial work is usually driven by staff comfort, screen glare, or energy cost. We work around trading hours and tenancy access, and on occupied floors we typically stage the install so desks are only out of action for a short window. Film specification is matched to the glazing already in place, which matters on sealed units and toughened glass where the wrong product can create thermal stress.

Melbourne CBD office — solar control film across a tenancy floor

Melbourne CBD office — solar control film across a tenancy floor

Staff along the northern facade were closing blinds by mid-morning and running the air conditioning hard. Solar control film cut the heat gain and screen glare so the blinds stayed open and the outlook was usable again.

High-rise commercial facade — full-building solar film upgrade

High-rise commercial facade — full-building solar film upgrade

A whole-of-building retrofit completed floor by floor with minimal disruption to tenants. Consistent film across the facade also tidies up the exterior appearance, which matters when previous patch jobs have left mismatched panels.

Retail shopfront — professional install by our senior technicians

Retail shopfront — professional install by our senior technicians

Shopfront glass is large, seamless and unforgiving of dust or bubbles. Installs like this are done by our experienced installers with the glass fully prepared first, then finished and checked before handover.

    Frosting and decorative film projects

Frosted and decorative films handle privacy where you still want light: meeting rooms, bathrooms, stairwells, glass partitions and shopfront branding. Options range from plain frost to textured 3M FASARA finishes, reeded and patterned films, cut logos and full-colour printed graphics. Because it is film rather than etched glass, the design can be changed later without replacing the panel.

Office partition — frosted privacy band to a glass meeting room

Office partition — frosted privacy band to a glass meeting room

A frosted band gives the meeting room privacy at seated eye level while keeping the borrowed light and open feel of the glass partition. Bands and cut patterns also serve as manifestation, making the glass visible so people do not walk into it.

    Safety and security film projects

Safety and security film bonds the glass together so that if a pane is broken it holds in place rather than falling as loose shards. We fit it to shopfronts and entries at risk of ram raids and break-ins, and to homes and schools where glass safety is the concern. The films we stock most often are 3M Safety Series S40 and S70, with thicker Ultra products where attack resistance is the priority.

    3M security window film

Melbourne shopfront — 3M security film to street-facing glass

Installed after repeated attempted break-ins on the strip. The film slows forced entry and keeps broken glass in the frame, which is often the difference between a damaged shopfront and an emptied store.

What an install like these involves

Assessment first. We look at the glass type, orientation, access and what the space is used for, then recommend a film and confirm a fixed written price. Getting the glass type right matters most on sealed double glazing and toughened panels.

Film selection. As a 3M Platinum Select Partner, UV Window Coatings specifies from the full 3M range alongside other architectural film brands, so the choice is driven by performance and appearance rather than by what happens to be on the van. You can compare products across our film brands pages.

Installation. Most homes are completed in a single day. Commercial floors are staged around trading hours or after hours where the tenancy needs it. Glass is cleaned and prepared before the film is laid, trimmed and squeegeed out, then checked panel by panel.

Aftercare and warranty. Film needs a short curing period before cleaning, and the products we install carry manufacturer warranties backed by our own workmanship guarantee.
