Security film pricing depends heavily on which 3M product you choose and whether it's installed internally or externally, more than most other film types. Here's exactly what each option costs, and why the range is wider than a standard solar or privacy film quote.
The short answer
Security film runs from $120 to $285+ per m² (inc GST), depending on the product tier and whether it's applied internally or externally. The entry-level S40 starts the range, and Ultra Security starts from the top.
Pricing by product

Your exact price depends on your specific glass, dimensions, access and film choice, confirmed with a fixed written quote after a free assessment. This is not a final price until it's in writing.

Why security film costs more than standard tint
Security film is a genuinely different product from solar or decorative film, thicker, engineered specifically to hold glass together under impact, not just control heat or light. The film itself costs more to manufacture, and installation is more exacting, since the film's performance depends on a clean, correctly-tensioned application.
What actually changes the price
The pricing guide above is per square metre, but your actual price is based on the film used on your job, not a simple area calculation. Film comes in fixed roll widths, and how efficiently it cuts to your specific glass, its shape, and how many panes are involved all affect how much material your job actually consumes. Two jobs with the same total glass area can use different amounts of film depending on the shape and layout of the windows. The per-m² figures above give you a genuine, reliable guide, but your fixed written quote reflects the real film usage for your specific glass, confirmed at the free assessment.
A few other things also move the number:
- Internal vs. external. External-rated film costs meaningfully more than the same product installed internally, since it needs to withstand direct weather exposure and UV degradation over time.
- S40 vs. S70 vs. Ultra. S40 is 4 mil thick, S70 is 7 mil, nearly double the thickness and break strength. Ultra Security is the flagship, multi-layer option above both.
- Glass access. Ground-floor windows are straightforward. Shopfronts, high-rise glazing, or after-hours-only sites add labour cost.
What's included
Every quote starts with a free assessment, we measure your actual glass, confirm which product tier suits your risk profile and glass type, and give you a fixed written price. 3M's Impact Protection Attachment is available as an add-on where maximum retention matters, a structural sealant that anchors the film to the frame rather than just the glass, priced separately at $15 per lineal metre (inc GST).
Which tier is right for you?
S40 is 3M's thinnest option in the range (4 mil), suited to general shatter protection for homes and offices. S70 steps up to 7 mil, nearly double the thickness, giving genuinely higher break strength for higher-risk entry points. Ultra Security is the flagship choice for shopfronts, banks, and properties where security is the primary concern, not a secondary benefit.
Specialty combined films
A few situations call for security performance combined with another film's benefits in one product, for example, Prestige combined with Ultra Security for security plus heat rejection and clarity, Night Vision combined with Ultra Security for security plus daytime privacy, or 3M's S2400 range. These are specialty products, priced separately from the standard tiers above and confirmed at your free assessment based on exactly what you need.
