Glare was affecting visibility for swimmers at Paul Sadler Swimland in Rowville. UV Window Coatings was engaged to replace existing window film with ASWF Daydream 5, with glare reduction as the main priority and heat and UV reduction as additional benefits.
The project involved 18 panes on the west side of the pool, covering approximately 16.3 m² of glazing.
The challenge: glare affecting swimmers’ visibility
Natural light is welcome in an indoor swimming facility, but excessive brightness can make it harder for swimmers to see comfortably.
At Paul Sadler Swimland Rowville, glare had become a visibility concern, with potential implications for safety as well as comfort. The priority was to reduce the intensity of sunlight entering through the affected windows.
The glazing already had window film installed. This project involved removing that film and replacing it with a darker film selected for the facility’s glare control needs.
The solution: ASWF Daydream 5 window film
UV Window Coatings installed ASWF Daydream 5 to the internal face of the affected glazing.
Daydream 5 is a dark solar control film designed to substantially reduce incoming visible light and glare. For this project, the emphasis was on controlling brightness through the pool’s west side windows.
Film selection involves a balance. A darker film reduces more visible light, so the choice needs to account for the room’s existing lighting, the position of the windows and how the space is used. Here, addressing the glare affecting swimmers was the main consideration.
Heat and UV reduction were secondary benefits of the selected film.

Replacing the existing film
Our team removed the existing window film before installing Daydream 5 across the 18 panes.
The upper glazing extended to just under five metres, requiring planned access for the installation. The scope also included new internal caulking around the panes.
Window film installation was completed on 29 June 2026, with the caulking completed on 3 July.

Window film for swimming pools and aquatic facilities
This project illustrates why commercial window film should be selected around the way a building is used.
For a swimming facility, glare and visibility may be the main concern. For another building, the priority might be heat, privacy or screen reflections. The appropriate film depends on the glazing, lighting and operating environment.
Pool facilities also need individual assessment of installation details and product suitability. A film selected for one pool should not automatically be specified for another.
Discuss glare reduction for your facility
If glare is affecting your swim school, aquatic centre or other commercial premises, UV Window Coatings can assess the affected windows and discuss suitable film options.
