    Window Tinting FAQ

How Long Does Window Tinting Installation Take?

What actually happens on install day, how long it takes, and when your windows look their best — in under 90 seconds.

How Long Does Window Film Installation Take?

Short answer: most homes are done in a single visit, and you can use your windows normally straight away — but the film needs a short curing period before it looks its absolute best.

On the day, our installer cleans each pane thoroughly, then applies the film using a water-and-solution process that lets it be positioned precisely before it bonds to the glass. Most Melbourne homes are installed in 4–6 hours, depending on the number and size of windows. Commercial and larger jobs are scoped and timed individually at quote stage.

You can open, close, and use your windows as normal immediately after install. What you will notice for a period afterwards is some light haziness, small water droplets, or tiny "bubbles" under the film — this is completely normal. It's residual moisture from the installation process working its way out as the adhesive fully cures, not a fault. It clears on its own; drying time varies with weather and film type, so your installer will tell you what to expect for your specific job at quote or install stage.

During curing, avoid cleaning the film with anything abrasive — a soft cloth and ammonia-free cleaner only, and give it time before your first proper clean (your installer will confirm the exact window).

What's normal in the days after installation

It's common to notice small imperfections right after your film goes on — light haze, tiny bubbles, or a slightly cloudy look in bright sunlight. None of this is a problem with the installation. It's part of the curing process, and it settles as the film fully bonds to the glass.

We run the same install process on large commercial sites — including Rod Laver Arena and Eastland Shopping Centre — scaled up for volume, so you're getting the same standard of workmanship whether it's one window or a whole building. UV Window Coatings has been installing 3M window film in Melbourne since 1997.
